Opening Soon: Kala Thai

As the curtains hopefully begin to close on an extraordinary and worrying time for Bournemouth’s hospitality businesses, August will welcome a brand-new venue to the ranks. We are happy to introduce Kala Thai…

Kala Thai, a new Thai restaurant, is due to open its doors in Bournemouth next week. The venue, which will operate as both restaurant and bar, featuring authentic Thai dishes and cocktails, will be situated on Old Christchurch Road opposite Horseshoe Common.

At the head of the Kala Thai operation is chef and businessman Tom Saengthong. Tom, who hails from Bangkok, will be supported by his wife and a team of four Thai chefs, as his restaurant prepares to open from midday until late seven days a week. This will also open up job opportunities in the bar and front-of-house departments.

“We are very excited to bring our new restaurant to the area,” Tom explained, “COVID delayed the launch by several weeks, but we are looking forward to opening next month and welcoming diners.

“The menu will include traditional favourites such as satays, dumplings, curries, Pad Thai and stir-fry dishes, as well as several specialist ones. Including Weeping Tiger, which is a dark rum and soy-marinated sirloin steak, served on an oriental stone; plus Duck Honey Tamarind and more.”

In the way of cocktails, the restaurant offers a range including Thai Cuchi Cuchi, Thai-style Bourbon and ginger, a Lychee Martini, plus an array of Margaritas and Mojitos (including the Spicy Thai Basil and Mint Mojito), and Kala Thai’s own Spiced Rum Lassi. Non-drinkers are also catered to on the cocktail menu, with the Thai Pearl Cocktail, the Lime Leaf Cooler and the Mango and Coconut Cocktail among the options.

As the venue is spacious, Tom assures that Kala Thai will be able to adhere to social distancing requirements, while also seating the restaurant’s capacity of 80 indoor diners and a further 50 al fresco.

Kala Thai opens to the public on Friday 7th August.
