Out of the continually expanding local photographic community comes Brandon Moss. But what steered him in the still image direction…?
Brandon Moss is a young Bournemouth man with a very sharp eye for photography and a good opportunity too. He has successfully created a name and gained recognition for himself through his own determination to become an established photographer.
Moss can proudly call himself a self-employed professional photographer. Having graduated in cinematography, he has converted many of those skills into the world of the still image. He focuses his efforts on portraiture, commercial, fashion and nature-based photography. Influenced by music, art and fashion alike, Brandon has a very unique skill for capturing a distinct evanescence in his photographs. Very much an artistic talent in its own right.
His ambitions are as bold as his step into the world of photography. In this article, he shares with us more about his inspirations, next moves, services already available, and personal interests.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO TAKE UP PHOTOGRAPHY?
I always had an eye for detail and was never academic at school. I decided to take up Media Studies at Bournemouth & Poole College. There wasn’t a clear outline of what I wanted to do back then, but I knew I liked film and TV.
Coming to the end of college, I decided that I wanted to go into cinematography, so I applied to study Film Production at university. After the first year I realised this was not what I wanted to do and that, in fact, I wanted to do photography instead. I made the jump to leave university and start my own photography business. With little hope that it would work or even get to the point where it is today.
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN PARTICULAR SUBJECTS WITHIN PHOTOGRAPHY?
Since starting my business, I have taken most of my inspiration from modern lifestyle, and contemporary art and music. This led me to specialise mainly in portrait photography. This was the initial interest to start a business. Turning a part time hobby into a full time job.
However, more recently, I have started to branch out to offer commercial advertising photography for products, interiors and architecture, travel, and so on. I love to consume travel and landscape-style photography media. But this isn’t a service I offer.
WHAT ARE YOUR NEXT STEPS, POST-COVID?
Going forward, I am looking at branching out my business even further. Teaming up with model agencies and possibly getting into the fashion photography industry. I am also currently looking to team up with a friend of mine to start a separate business for online advertising and content creation. The idea is to have my photography business and this collective business running alongside each other.
TELL US ABOUT A FAVOURITE PIECE OF YOUR WORK…
To date, I am particularly happy with the work I did for a local model. Instead of sticking with the usual studio and white background, we decided to make something a little more artsy. I would love to do more content like this going forward for sure.
