Earlier in the year, Kamil Skalczyński told us his story of combining art and food together. This month, he’s taking over Mai Tai…
For those of you who haven’t heard, Kamil Skalczyński is an award-winning chef and creator of Art Sushi – where dishes look as good as they taste! Later this month, he will be taking over Mai Tai on Thursday 24th October from 7pm for an evening of sushi and cocktails.
What’s more, the evening will be sponsored by the prestigious champagne brand Moët & Chandon. We caught up with Kamil to get the lowdown on his takeover of Mai Tai.
How does it feel to be taking over a classy venue like Mai Tai?
The concept is to change Mai Tai for one evening with three courses of sushi, accompanied by great alcohol from Moët & Chandon and Kokoro Gin. So, I’m glad that I am “taking over” for one night, to give the guests an interesting experience.
How does it feel to be partnering with a major brand like Moët & Chandon?
To be honest, I have collaborated with Moët & Chandon before, when I was in Poland. These were really unforgettable events. It’s great that we are working together with them again, as well as with Kokoro Gin to make a great evening.
Why do you think people like the experience of having their sushi prepared right in front of them?
This is the most important part of the program. Guests can literally see everything that is being prepared for them. It’s an honesty thing, I think.
Are you partnering with any other local brands and businesses?
I am currently in conversation with very fantastic people from IT’S TEA where the owners have a lot of knowledge and passion when it comes to green tea. We want to organise something together, but at the moment I do not want to reveal the details… it’s a surprise!
Three courses of sushi will be prepared live in front of a limited number of guests and can be pre-ordered before the night. For £25, guests can enjoy the three-course sushi meal, plus a £5 glass of Moët & Chandon champagne on arrival!
